Towns and villages in the Cotswolds The Cotswolds covers an area of some 600 square miles , mainly in Gloucestershire. but also touching on Somerset, Avon, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. So there are many towns, villages and the odd City that are thought of as being in the Cotswold area. The Center of Stow on the Wold Either in, or close to the Cotswolds are places such as Bath, Oxford, Stratford, Gloucester and Cheltenham. But the real feel of the Cotswolds is in the smaller towns and villages. Places like The Ampneys, Badminton, Bibury and Stow on the Wold. Cutting through the Cotswolds from Bath through towards the midlands is the Old Roman Road the Fosse Way, and consequently the towns along this route have gained a certain fame. Notably Moreton in Marsh, Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water. These are very popular towns and well worth a visit.
